Outdoor Field Day
August 3 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Gather a friend, the whole family, or head out yourself to tackle some new outdoor interests at Horicon Marsh! Test out a new skill or learn tips and tricks from the experts as you explore archery, fishing, fly-tying, hunting, and more! Drop in any time for this free open-house.
Archery, birding, hunting and fishing are among the fun things to be taught by Department of Natural Resources staff and expert volunteers during the free and family-friendly August Horicon Marsh Outdoor Field Day.
No registration is required for the August 3 event for all ages. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Versatile dog demonstrations.
Join expert dog handlers with multiple breeds and see how they are trained for obedience and hunting. Visit the Friends of the Poynette Game Farm Trailer to meet the handlers and dogs as you watch them show off their skills!
How’s your aim?
The Horicon Bowmen and the DNR are proud to offer the archery camp at this year’s event. People of all ages can try archery using the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) equipment. Ages 5+
Join the DNR’s, R3 team as they chat around the campfire about where your hunting, fishing, trapping dollars go and how benefits wildlife. Snack on some fresh cooked wild game while you are there!
Certified Hunter Safety Instructors will be available with firearm action sets to demonstrate proper firearm use and safety. Practice your aim with laser guns as well! Climb into a harness and learn about tree stand safety. Check out UTV’s and ATV’s as you learn about riding them safely.
Birds, binoculars and fishing too!
The International Crane Foundation and expert birders will be on hand to show the basics of binocular use and bird ID. Try your hand at tying your own fly as well!
To eat or not to eat?
A master naturalist will question if you know your good berries from bad berries while making a collection basket. SAGE Natural Living will be giving wildcrafting demonstrations on how to use marsh plants for everyday uses!
Calling all wildlife.
Join experts in wildlife calls. Can you honk like a goose, quack like a duck or cluck like a hen turkey? Marsh Haven Nature Center will be bringing some of their LIVE animal ambassadors to showcase some of our majestic raptors!
